Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely made it through winter in Northglenn just yet. Mother Nature may have a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s in charge. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall could bury your air conditioner in the snow, diminishing its performance when the temperatures start to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can keep a high-efficiency system from running as such. The situation could become an even larger problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are things you can do as a homeowner to help your air conditioner work properly even though snow has fallen or could fall in the approaching days and weeks.

  1. Maintain a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Inspect the area frequently to ensure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that could have built up during the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, covering your air conditioner could end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner may be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, causing damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Northglenn will probably go up and down over the last few days of cold weather, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can change the performance of your air conditioner. At Northglenn Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. in Northglenn, we are always available to check any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re about air conditioner service or buying a new system.
